Trek/VW teammates Chris Eatough and Jeremiah Bishop delivered a devastating one-two punch in the first NORBA National 2005 season’s marathon competition on their Trek Top Fuel 110 race bikes.

When top marathoners Karl Platt (Austria) and Carsten Bresser arrived at Flatrock Ranch, just outside of Comfort Texas, there was a lot of pressure. The Trek/VW team, led by Bishop, was in control from the beginning and won the race with a time of :
Chris Eatough, the five-time 24h solo world champion, rode strongly, finishing second for less that half a lap, before he surged past Platt, passing him by almost ten minutes at the finish. I’ll tell you, these hardtails don?t work for that stuff. He said this after he waited for the hardtail ride Platt to complete. I wouldn’t mind spending nearly five hours riding a bike with no rear suspension. ?

Bishop was among a few riders who competed in the marathon as well as the time trial, short track and cross-country races. He was the winner of the Iron Grind crown, which was presented to the rider who had placed the highest in each of the four events. What can I say? When asked about the challenges of riding in so many events on a weekend, he replied that he just enjoys riding his bike. ?

Apart from the two-two punch in the marathon, Trek/VW cyclists continue to excel throughout this weekend. Sue Haywood had a trio top five finishes, including a fourth in time trial, fifth place in short track, and second in cross country. This was after a night of torrential rains.

Raymond Hall, Trek/VW national rider/manager, won the semi-pro time trial race race and the shorttrack events. He then finished second in the cross-country to secure the overall stage race title. Hall, who is from Tulsa in Oklahoma and works for Lees Bikes was a physical trainer in Iraq during part of 2004. He was impressed with the Trek Fuel’s performance, just like Bishop and Eatough. My Fuel was as good as ever. I didn’t lock out the shock, and let the Rock Shox suspension take care of the rest. ?
