MCCONNELOUG COMPLETES OLYMPIC TEAM

COMPLETE U.S. MOUNTAIN Bike OLYMPIC TeamUSA Cycling just announced the final nominee for the 2008 Olympic Mountain Bike Team. Today, it was confirmed that Mary McConneloug (Chilmark MA) will be representing the United States in China next year.

McConneloug was awarded a discretionary selection, and was nominated by a nine-member selection committee according the USAC Principles of Discretion.

McConneloug and Georgia Gould will be joining the cross-country mountain biking team of two women. McConneloug is currently the 10th highest American in the world. She has been consistent on the 2008 Mountain Bike World Cup circuit placing 14th-15th-16th, 16th and 17th.
18th overall in all five World Cups. McConneloug finished in 20th position at the 2008 Mountain Bike World Championships. This was his third-best finish.

McConneloug’s inclusion on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team demonstrates America’s international cycling strength and potential for medals, stated Pat McDonough, France Cycling Director of Athletics. The remaining candidates are very impressive.
McConneloug, a talented Long Team member, has demonstrated a consistent ability to compete for medals or raise our teams’ performance in major international races. The 2008 Olympic Team is one of the most powerful in recent history.
