THE REMEDY

These were inspired by an old wives tale, which suggests that placing a clove of garlic unpeeled under your pillow at night can help with falling asleep. Although it is difficult to determine when this remedy became popular, most people I spoke to seemed to be familiar with it. They often replied with, « Oh yeah, my Aunt told me to do that once. »

This garlic is amazing!

The instructions for how it works are included in the product’s name. Just place an unpeeled clove underneath your pillow before you go to sleep. You can then toss the old clove under your pillow and replace it with a fresh one each morning. Continue this process until you are completely free of insomnia.

THE SCIENCE

Although there isn’t much research on garlic’s sleep effects, we know that it is rich in magnesium and potassium which are essential elements for catching good shut-eye. These nutritional benefits are not only available if you eat the onion family member, but a whiff of the pungent smell can also trigger some drowsiness.

All that aside, garlic has a lot of vitamins B & C and Allicin. This enzyme is derived from chopped garlic and has been proven to have some antibiotic properties. Recent research has also shown that garlic consumption could increase memory retention and reduce bad cholesterol.
